FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


What is an entry?
An entry consists of one image or a series of images. It can also be a video for the video category. Each single entry costs $45, each series entry costs $55. (PhotoServe or WPPI membership entry fees: $31.50 per image | $38.50 per series.) Student entry is $25. Extended deadline rates add $10 to each entry prior to any PhotoServe or WPPI membership discount.

How should I prepare my images for digital upload? What file format?
You should submit JPEG images saved with max quality compression with a long dimension of 2,000 pixels at 72 to 300 dpi.

Are there any guidelines to submit the image caption?
- Do not use all upper case.
- Do not insert copyright symbols for your images in your credit line.
- Do not list any caption over forty words.
- Check your spelling, facts and grammar, please take care with your captions.
- If you are uploading more then one winning image, be clear in your captions. First describe the image, then write the caption for that specific photo.
- Very important: please take care with the titles of the people you list in your caption.

How can I submit my video?
For the video category you should simply enter a URL to your video on Youtube, Vimeo or any other website were you have your video posted that can be easily viewed by a judge who clicks the URL you provide.

Is there a limit to the number of entries or categories that I can enter?
No, you can enter as many as you wish to pay for.

What is a series?
A series includes multiple images that make up a cohesive related theme or story.

How many images are allowed in a series?
We allow 2-6 images per series.

How do I enter a website?
Take a screen-shot of you website and upload as the image. In the 'Caption' text field (upon image upload) include the URL.

Will there be print and online winners in each category?
Yes, PDN will awards multiple publication in print and online in every category, please see last years gallery to view how winners are displayed.

Can I enter if I live outside of the U.S.?
As long as local or national laws do not prohibit your entry.

When will the winners be announced?
We will contact all winners in March 2014. We will publish the winning entries in the June 2014 issue of PDN. Please do not call us regarding the status of your entry, if you are selected, we will contact you in March.

Can I mail in a Book or Corporate Design submission?

*Mailed Submission are accepted only for the PHOTO BOOKS and CORPORATE DESIGN categories. For mailed submissions, register on the website first and pay your entry fee. Include your e-mail address (your pdnphotoannual.com registered user) and contact information with the package. For PHOTO BOOK submissions, you must upload the book cover and up to 5 interior images or layouts saved in JPEG format. Please fill out ALL the caption and credit criteria that apply to the book. Submitted materials will not be returned. All entries must be post marked before the deadline!
