RULES 

WHO MAY ENTER: Anyone except employees of Nielsen and their families.

ENTERING THE CONTEST
Photographers may submit images for consideration. An entry consists of a single image. Individuals may pay to enter an unlimited amount of times.

ENTRY FEES: $45 per single entry/$55 per series/$25 for student. Submissions received after 12/20/07 will be subject to an additional late fee of $10 (through extended deadline period of 1/22/2008).

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

ONLINE SUBMISSIONS ONLY: To enter your submissions electronically, please visit www.pdnphotoannual.com and register. Once the registration process has been completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Simply log in to the PDN Annual Photo contest site, and follow the online instructions to upload images from your computer. Images formatted as a JPEG measuring at least 1,000 pixels on its long dimension are preferred. Images may be color profiled in sRGB, Adobe-1998 or not color-managed.

SPECIFICATIONS: To qualify, photographs must be taken between January 1, 2007 and January 22, 2008.

JUDGING: Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality and effectiveness in expressing the contest theme. Winners will be published in the May 2008 PDN issue exhibiting the PHOTO ANNUAL & PDNonline.com.

CONSENT AGREEMENT: Submitted materials will not be returned. PDN is not responsible for the loss or damage of any entry. Submission of an entry to the contest automatically constitutes the contestant's acceptance of all conditions set forth in the above rules. It also acknowledges the right of PDN and Photo District News to use the entry for publication; PDNonline.com and in exhibitions and promotions related to the PDN Photo Annual contest up to 12 months following the contest.

Entries not complying with the rules set forth above will be disqualified.

PDN is solely responsible for the administration of the contest, and sponsors are in no way affiliated with the contest or liable for any matters arising due to the contest.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

How should I prepare my images for digital upload? What file format?
You should submit JPEG images saved with max quality compression with a long dimension of at least 1,000 pixels at 72 or 300 dpi.

What is an entry?
An entry consists of one image or a series of images. Each single entry costs $45; each series entry costs $55. Student entry is $25.

Is there a limit to the number of photos or categories that I can enter?
No, you may enter as many photographs and categories as you like. We suggest no more than 20 submissions.  

How many images are allowed in a series?
We allow 2-6 images per series.

Will there be a prizewinner in each category?
Yes, PDN will award a prize in every category, and select a Grand prizewinner from all Category winners.

Can I enter if I live outside of the U.S.?
Definitely.

When will the winners be announced?
We will contact all winners in January 2008. We will publish the winning entries in the April 2008 issue of PDN. Please do not call us regarding the status of your entry; if you are selected, we will contact you in late January.

Can I pay by check?
Yes, make the check payable to Photo District News with a memo: Photo Annual. Use the mailing address below and burn your files to CD.

Mailed Submission are accepted only for categories 3,5 & 6 (optional) listed above in the categories section of this webpage. All other entries are accepted via this website www.pdnphotoannual.com. For mailed submissions, register on the website first and purchase your desired category. Include your e-mail address (your pdnphotoannual.com registered user) and contact information with the package.

Submitted materials will not be returned. All entries must be post marked before the deadline!
